影像艺术家周雨歌首场国内机构个展“水流向远方”在今日美术馆开幕

2026年8月23日至10月7日，北京今日美术馆将呈现影像艺术家周雨歌的首场国内机构个展“水流向远方”。展览精选其2015年至今的7件（组）作品，系统梳理艺术家十余年来从城市空间政治到身体与集体记忆的创作轨迹。

周雨歌的早期创作聚焦城市空间中的权力与秩序。《地铁环路》以纽约地铁站台为公共剧场：画面中心的鼓手通过鼓点调度人流的节奏起伏，通勤的机械流速被重新编写为共作与即兴交织的都市节律，同心构图将都市时间呈现为可感环路。《中城颤动》将影像投映于建筑浮雕，垂直的摩天大楼与水平移动的人群相互牵引，揭示无形秩序如何塑形日常。展览同名作品《水流向远方》则以散点透视和碎片拼贴重组时空游历路径，水作为流动的隐喻贯穿都市剖面。

随后，她的创作转向以身体仪式承载个人情感与集体记忆。《情书》以即兴舞蹈隔空对话，在沉默中完成跨越空间的情感联结；《月画》中，艺术家拖着行李箱在雪地与沙滩反复走出满月轨迹，将“月”所承载的思乡之意铭刻于异国土地。《蹦床色彩练习》在2025年6月首映于纽约时代广场，作品将奥运体操录像中翻腾的身体抽象化，将95块广告屏幕转化为公共艺术现场，重构对身体与身份的感知，呼应瞬息万变的地缘政治格局。

展览首次呈现艺术家新作——《中国女人》。作品聚焦首位被带往美国公开展示的中国女性梅阿芳，将散落的史料与一棵同期被移植到纽约的银杏影像并置，让历史中失语的女性与沉默的树木重获在场的重量。

标题“水流向远方”既是周雨歌一件早期作品的名称，也映照着她的人生轨迹。幼年时，她为电视剧《小龙人》演唱主题曲，其清澈的童声塑造了一代人的集体记忆。成年后，她赴美国学习艺术，并长居美国十年。她的创作根植于跨越文化语境的迁徙经验，在80后旅美艺术家中极具代表性。

远方既是离散者奔赴的异乡，亦是她永恒回望的故土。水，是贯穿其作品的隐喻：是时间的流逝，是人潮与车流的节律，是远行的步履。而“流向”从不是单向的出走——所有远去，都可能以另一种形态回返。水流曾载她远行，如今又引她回岸。

Bringing together seven bodies of work created between 2015 and the present, this exhibitiontraces more than a decade of Zhou's exploration of the tensions between home and elsewhere, the individual and the collective, and the ways these relationships are continuously reshaped through movement, memory, and place.

Zhou's early works investigate the politics of urban space.Underground Circuittransforms a New York subway platform into a public theater. A drummer at the center orchestrates the rhythms of passing commuters through percussion. The mechanical flow of urban transit is reimagined as a choreography of improvisation and collective movement, while the concentric composition renders urban time as a palpable circuit.Midtown Flutterprojects moving images onto an architectural relief, juxtaposing soaring skyscrapers with the horizontal movement of pedestrians to reveal the invisible forces that organize everyday life. The exhibition's title work,To Afar the Water Flows, reconstructs journeys through time and space using fragmented montage and shifting perspectives, with water serving as a recurring metaphor for movement and flow within the modern city.

In her later works, Zhou turns toward embodied ritual to explore the tensions between personal emotion and collective memory.Love Lettersfollows two dancers communicating across opposite banks of the Chicago River through improvised body movement, creating an intimate dialogue beyond words. InMoon Drawings, the artist drags a suitcase across snow and sand to trace the outline of a full moon, inscribing the Chinese cultural symbol of longing and reunion onto an adopted landscape.Trampoline Color Exercisecontinues her investigation of the politics of the body by isolating Olympic gymnasts in motion and digitally shifting the colors of their uniforms —markers of national identity—as they perform their routine

The exhibition also premieres Zhou's newest work,The Chinese Lady. Centered on Afong Moy, the first documented Chinese woman brought to the United States for public exhibition, the film juxtaposes fragmented historical texts with images of a Chinese ginkgo tree transplanted to New York during the same period. Together, they seek to restore presence to both a woman silenced by history and a tree that has quietly borne witness across centuries.

The exhibition title,To Afar the Water Flows, echoes Zhou's own journey from China to the United States. Throughout her practice, water functions as a central metaphor—for time, the rhythms of the city, and the footsteps of migration. Yet "flowing afar" is never simply a one-way departure. Every journey outward carries within it the possibility of return. Water once carried the artist away; now, it guides her back to shore.

周雨歌是一位出生于北京、现居芝加哥的影像艺术家。她的作品关注扎根感、共存状态，以及城市空间中的社会互动。通过细腻的纪录片式影像与视频拼贴，她探寻个体境遇与人性的复杂状态，并思考在一个日益分化的世界中，人们如何作为一个集体持续地共同栖居。

雨歌成长于中国经济改革的深化阶段，亲历人口流动、城市扩张与全球化进程。童年时期，她曾担任电视剧《小龙人》的主唱歌手，这段公共经验与当时的时代背景，共同塑造了她对迁徙、跨文化身份与归属感的长期关注。她的作品曾在国内外知名艺术机构及公共空间展出。2025年6月，她入选纽约时代广场公共艺术项目“午夜时刻”（Midnight Moment），其影像横跨95块数字屏幕同步展映。她曾被《纽约杂志》(New York Magazine)、《Hyperallergic》和《弗里兹》(Frieze) 等媒体专题报道，并被芝加哥当代摄影博物馆 (Museum of Contemporary Photography) 和卡尔与玛丽琳·托马基金会 (Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation) 等机构收藏。2024年，雨歌荣获了乔伊斯基金会阿塔迪亚艺术大奖 (Joyce Foundation Artadia Award)。她拥有芝加哥艺术学院的艺术硕士以及雪城大学的理学硕士学位。

Yuge Zhou is a Chinese-born, Chicago-based video artist and filmmaker whose work addresses rootedness, coexistence, and social encounters across urban spaces - the sites of our shared dreams.Through intimate documentation and video collage, she seeks to reveal broader truths about who we are and what it means to cohabit as a fractured collective.

At the age of five, Yuge became a household name in China as the singer for several popular children’s TV series. Growing up in Beijing during the second stage of China’s economic reforms, she witnessed mass migration and the rapid expansion of her hometown — experiences that continue to shape her reflections on movement and belonging across cultures and geographies. Nearly two decades ago, she moved to the United States to study computer science and later transitioned to video art and film, earning her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in prominent art venues and public spaces, most recently across 95 billboards in New York City’s Times Square as part of theMidnight Momentprogram. Yuge’s practice has been featured inNew York MagazineHyperallergic, andFrieze, and her works are held in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago) and the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation. She is the recipient of the 2024 Joyce Foundation Artadia Award and the 2021 Artist Fellowship Award in Media Arts from the Illinois Arts Council.

韩晗，设计师、写作者及策展人，现居上海，获伦敦大学金史密斯学院当代艺术理论硕士学位。她长期在设计、艺术与写作之间展开实践，关注视觉文化如何参与身份建构、文化记忆与社会叙事。韩晗曾供职于South London Gallery、泰康美术馆等艺术机构，其写作常见于《时尚芭莎》《T》等出版物。

Han Han is a designer, writer and curator based in Shanghai.She holds an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her interdisciplinary practice spans design, art, and writing, with a focus on how visual culture shapes identity formation, cultural memory, and social narratives. She has previously worked with art institutions including South London Gallery and Taikang Art Museum, and has contributed as a writer to publications such asHarper’s Bazaar ChinaandT Magazine

策展人龙戈

龙戈，策展人、派对组织者。获中国美术学院视觉文化研究学士、伦敦大学金史密斯学院策展硕士。其策展实践以批判理论为引擎，强调以游戏性的方式介入公共空间，并持续关注身体、边界与社群间的协商机制，力图在当下语境中构筑可持续的合作网络与新的公共想象。

Loong Wanyan Wu is a curator and party organiser. She holds a BFA in Visual Culture Studies from the China Academy of Art and an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her curatorial practice is driven by critical theory, emphasising playful interventions in the public sphere while maintaining a sustained focus on the mechanisms of negotiation between the body, boundaries, and communities. She seeks to build sustainable collaborative networks and new public imaginaries within the contemporary context.
